Revisiting Sino-Indian Border Dispute: Its Changing Dynamics

By Vinay Kaura

Abstract

The Sino-Indian border dispute remains in a deadlock regardless of plentiful bilateral talks over the years. China has selectively adopted various approaches to address the border issue with India, which has created an asymmetrical position for India in the negotiating process.

Changing Dynamics

The Galwan Valley incident of June 2020 marked a watershed moment in the Sino-Indian border relationship. For the first time since 1975, troops from both sides suffered casualties. This has fundamentally altered India’s threat assessment and strategic posture towards China.
