The Context
A Region Left Behind
Seven years into the millennium, the East and North East had hardly moved ahead. Whereas the rest of India was firmly in the globalisation fold, this area appeared time-warped — a people and poles apart, where even today in some parts, the rest of India is referred to as "mainland".
A Shifting Political Landscape
Coalitions, once anathema to major political bodies, are now accepted as the way forward. States are becoming more autonomous and federal in nature — a movement that cannot be rolled back. It is in this background of ideological expediency and policy compulsions that CENERS-K plays its role.
CENERS-K's Role
CENERS-K — with its autonomous, apolitical and fiercely independent platform — plays a role in moulding public awareness that shall transform itself into policy. It cannot and shall not be bound by a singular ideology, standing apart to view issues in perspective.
Our Aims
To educate the People and the State(s) of the live issues confronting them, put a national canvas on these issues, and develop a futuristic plan that forecasts events, eventualities and options to tackle them.
To fulfil the lack of interaction between thinkers, planners, bureaucrats and politicians — arriving at widely acceptable options by discussing them in well-attended forums, presentations, monographs and reports.
What We Do
Independent Research
Conduct independent research on internal security issues in the East and share findings with the public and policy makers.
Strategic Forum
Provide a forum for the strategic community and students to examine current issues from outside the box and consider alternative policy options.
Scholar Development
Build capacity among young scholars for greater refinement of security analyses through research opportunities and mentorship.
Demographic Studies
Carry out comprehensive studies on demographic compulsions arising from natural shifts and propose solutions toward national absorption.
Regional Awareness
Study Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South-East and East Asia in depth — and educate the people of India about these nations in all their facets.
India's Global Role
Analyse India's role in global alignments and national interests in the coming half century — assessing market dynamics and strategic positioning.
Rural & Urban Development
Promote concomitant rural upliftment alongside infrastructure and urban development, including the contribution the Armed Forces can make toward nation building.
Eastern Sector Security
Study the strategic importance of the Eastern sector — the future conflict area — and advocate for control and stability across the E4W region.
