BRIEF BIODATA OF MAJ GEN S N MUKHERJEE IA (RETD.)
A Civil Engineering Graduate with a Post-graduate Degree in Engineering and
Management. Have a sound base of Military background as a commissioned
officer in the Indian Corps of Engineers, spanning more than thirty-seven years
in managing large work forces.
Appointed Vice Chancellor of the prestigious LakshmibaiNational University of
Physical Education, Gwalior on deputation while still in active service on 23rd
March 2005 and held the appointment till 23rd September, 2010 (Five and half
years).
Under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Maj. Gen. S.N. Mukherjee not
only the image of the Institute but of the Physical Education profession has
achieved new dimensions in both national and International arena.
Elected as First Executive Secretary and Founder Chairman of Local Chapters,
Chandigarh and Srinagar of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) and finally
Elected President of Indian Geotechnical Society one of the most prestigious
professional Engineering assignment for the term 2005-2006.
Personally responsible as Chairman / Co-chairman to organize National Level
Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. Key note speaker in Inaugural
Function of Pre 4th World Military Games Scientific Conference -2007,and
many other National and Inter National Conferences.
Elected President of Madhya Pradesh Football Association, one of the most
challenging professional sports assignments for the term ‘10-14 & ‘14 –18.
Nominated as member of the Executive Council of BHU for the term ‘08-‘11 by
Her Excellency the President of India as visitor of the University in2008.
Nominated by Government of India as member of the Governing Body of Sports
Authority of India for three years w.e.f. Jul, 2010.
Member in the Personality Test and final interview Boards for assessing
candidates who have qualified in the main Civil Services Examination, Indian
Engineering Service Examination & also Scientist Group “ D” of the UPSC.

Recognition and Award:-
• Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation Card in 1980 &General Officer
Commanding in Chief’s Commendation Card in 1984.
• Gold Medal for the best paper in Ground Improvement was awarded
byIndian Geotechnical Society in 1991.
• Appointed by Govt. of India through Gazette Notification Honorary
Colonel Commandant of N.C.C. from March 2006 to Sept. 2010, for
distinguished & dedicated Service to the NCC, a Unique Honour.
• Awarded the prestigious “Man of the year” award by the citizens of
Gwalior in recognition of his selfless & dedicated service to the society on
26th Jan 2007.
• Appointed as one of the members of Arjun, Dronachariya and Rajiv
Gandhi Khelratna Award Selection Committee for the year 2007 by
Government of India, a recognition given for the first time to a Vice
Chancellor.
• Awarded Fellowship of American Bibliographic Institute in the year 2008.
• In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Sport
Psychology in India, Prof. Tony Moriis, the President of Asian South
Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP) highly commended
&honoured Maj. Gen. S.N. Mukherjee, IA (Retd), Vice Chancellor, LNUPE
by presenting him a citation on behalf of all members of the Association
on 22nd Dec’09.
• Rotary International District 3050 (Comprising Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat
& Rajasthan) awarded Vocational Excellence Award -2009 to Maj. Gen.
S.N. Mukherjee, Vice Chancellor, LNUPE, Gwalior, In recognition of his
outstanding achievements for development of Physical Education,
dedicated service to the society and inspiration to other educational
institutions and the same was presented by Justice shri R.C. Lahoti, ExChief Justice of Supreme Court on 27th Dec’09.

Promoter of Physical Education & Sports and was awarded Degree of
Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Education in March, 2010.
